Wealth Out Of Waste - 2017

Building Bridges one Newspaper at a time...

During the fortnight of 12th of June to the 22nd of June, students from Grades 1 to 12, stumbled into National Public School Indiranagar, carrying stacks of newspaper. Members of the environmental club – SEWA (Social Empowerment through Work and Action), rushed around lightening the students’ burden. Parents disembarked in order to help get the paper inside but were promptly intercepted by the eager volunteers who unloaded the car before swiftly moving on to the next vehicle. During the two weeks, empty trucks entered the school but left stacked full with old newspapers, books and used sheets of paper. All in all, SEWA’s biggest event of the year WOW (Wealth out of Waste) was a smashing success. The school collected a total of 14 thousand kilograms of paper, which was later sold to collect Rs. 1,25,000. The proceeds were then divided amongst 5 prestigious NGOs to buy them essential daily provisions. This was an attempt to reach out to those children who are less privileged. These organisations were Shishu Mandir, Asha Kiran School for Special Needs, JMJ Nivas, Deena Nilya and BOSCO (Bangalore Oniyavara Seva Coota). With this endeavour, the students of National Public School Indiranagar have yet again left a lasting impression on the hearts and minds of the people whose lives they touched.
