This is the very first activity in the academic year to get the children become aware of colours around them including their names, properties and their various shades. After speaking about it for the entire month, there is a day dedicated to that particular colour where the children and teachers dress up and even bring in snacks in the designated colour.
Songs, craft and stories are all part of the Independence Day celebrations. At their level, the children are made aware of the rich history of our country. Patriotic songs are taught and an attempt is made to instill in them a love for their country.
Dushehra and Diwali
The festive season begins with Dushehra where we tell the story of Ram and his banishment and the eventual victory of Good over Evil. This culminates in them being told of the return of the prince from the jungle and the joy of the people which we depict through colour, paints and glitter. While the excitement of Diwali builds up by them taking back a diya which they paint themselves, it is ingrained in them that bursting too many crackers are harmful to the environment, bringing with the festivities a message of eco-awareness.
July is the month when we touch upon Underwater Life as our project. While we speak about life below the sea, the children learn the names and behaviour pattern of life hitherto relatively unknown to them. A field trip to the aquarium is organised which the children thoroughly enjoy. We see the theory that fish have a calming effect on young minds proving true here.
It is said that puppets transport children to a different world altogether. For Children's Day, on November 14 every year the teachers organise a puppet show for the children. The story of Ganesha, depicted through shadow puppetry, the very enjoyable Stone Soup are some of the examples of Puppet Shows we have had so far.
In a world that is so urbanised, the children have less and less opportunities to interact with nature. For this, various field trips are organised to enhance their experiences. A hands-on Farm trip never fails to excite the children. Interacting with the animals is a first time for most of them. After having studied about Underwater Animals, a trip to the aquarium brings to life all that they have studied in class only in theory. A field trip to the bakery helps the children understand not only where bakery products are manufactured but also about a different profession they may not heard about. Also, it gives them an insight into some of the ingredients used in the kitchen. A trip to the Nursery fascinates the children when they see various plants In different hues and shapes.
After a project on healthy eating including the names of fruits and vegetables, the children are taken to a vegetable store. They even get to take back a "goody bag" full of vegetables.Sports Day
In a world where we are paradoxically more health conscious and lead sedentary lives, Sports Day livens up our lives! We try to instill in the children a spirit of healthy competition by organising fun races and a drill for body co-ordination.
Christmas the world over brings cheer and joy and our school is no different. Beginning with the story of Christmas, carols are sung and Christmas party organised replete with Santa coming in and distributing Xmas gifts during the party where all are dressed in Christmas colours of green, red and white.
