"Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other"
- John F. Kennedy
A clear blue sky, an array of colours and innumerable beating hearts witnessed this partnership of leaders and learners on 12 June on the occasion of Investiture 2015 at National Public School, Indiranagar. Both a solemn and celebratory moment, this was the first milestone event of the school year, where deserving candidates were nominated by students and teachers and invested with their new responsibilities for the coming academic year.
Our school prayer set the mood for the ceremony, followed by a welcome address and a befitting invocation song dedicated to the Goddess of learning, Kalyani Veenapani. A wonderful speech elucidated the history of birth and evolution of our four Houses, their insignias and adages. It was especially interesting to know that the change in the House colours and mottoes was brought about by none other than our very own student community.
The ceremony began with our Principal, Ms. Shantha Chandran conferring the first set of badges on the School Prefect, Vice-Prefects, Sports Captain, Sports Vice-Captains, the House Captains and Vice-Captains amidst thundering applause. It was gratifying to watch the entire school unanimously supporting their democratic decision with loud cheers. Thereafter, the audience joined the students of Classes 6, 7 and 8 in celebrating the glory of our newly elected office-bearers with a mellifluous rendition of "I Will Rejoice".
The second set of badges was presented by our Vice-Principal Ms. Shirin Jeyakar which included the Science, Commerce, Literary, Math and Cyber Associations. Next a spectacular dance performance by the peppy divas of Classes 4, 5 and 6 entertained all with their rhythmic dance moves. Excitement among the students was palpable as they eagerly waited for the next set of badges to be announced by our Senior Coordinator, Ms. Ida Selvakumar, for the President and Secretaries of the Sanskrit, Hindi, Art, Magazine, MUN and Seva Associations. A beautifully harmonized performance of "Galiyan" by the talented singers of NPS was appreciated by all before the final set of badges for the Quiz, Dance, Music, Dramatics, Webcraft and Photography Associations was presented by our Coordinator, Ms. Anuradha Krishna. The Grand Finale, a well-choreographed dance with colourful hats was the last of the cultural programmes, painstakingly put together by our gifted and enthusiastic students.
NPS indeed believes that the young leaders of today will fulfill the responsibilities bestowed upon them and blossom into dynamic citizens and future leaders of tomorrow. With this thought, the momentous event was brought to a fitting close with a speech straight from the heart of our newly elected School Prefect Akhil Nori, who looked forward to an inspiring year with “a ladder of expectations” and a sincere contribution from every NPSite.
