In an attempt to help the children grow in awareness of colours around them, a Colour Day, and this year yellow was the chosen one, was organised as is usual annually in the Montessori on June 28, '13.
They went through a series of activities right from the beginning of the academic year when they saw all the bulletin boards decorated with all things yellow. We discussed at length what we generally find around us in that colour. The children came out with amazing options we thought. We never realised that their powers of observation were so good!
Yellow Day dawned bright and even the Sun God came out in his yellowest best! Every child, and every teacher, was dressed in yellow. Great excitement followed as we took the children for a short bus ride in the yellow school bus. Their joy knew no bounds, especially of the beginners. We got back to some more yellow, yellow snacks!! The parents had taken a lot of trouble to make sure their children's snacks were filled only in that colour. Corn, upma, laddoo, crunchy gold fingers to name just a few. The day ended when they went home happily with a lollipop which was...yellow of course!
